Checkmate意思

"Checkmate" (also known as "mate") is a term used in chess to indicate that one player has won the game. It means that the player whose turn it is to move (the "active" player) is in a position where they have no legal moves left. When this happens, the game ends, and the player who has just made the checkmate is declared the winner.

A checkmate usually involves trapping the opponent's king so that it is in check (threatened with capture) and has no legal moves to escape. There are various ways to achieve checkmate, and it can occur in different parts of the board depending on the position of the pieces.

The word "checkmate" comes from the Persian phrase "shah mat," which means "the king is dead" or "the king is helpless." The term "check" refers to the act of putting the opponent's king in danger of capture. If a player's king is in check, they must make a move to get out of check on their next turn, or the game ends in a checkmate.
