BSP stands for "Basic Switching Plan" in the context of telecommunications. It refers to a type of telephone network architecture that was used in the early days of the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The Basic Switching Plan was a system for routing calls between different exchanges (central offices) in the PSTN.

In the Basic Switching Plan, each telephone exchange was connected to a limited number of other exchanges through trunk lines. Calls between exchanges were routed through these trunk lines. The Basic Switching Plan was eventually replaced by more advanced network architectures, such as the Stored Program Control (SPC) system, which used computerized switches to route calls more efficiently.
