I think therefore i am意思
"I think, therefore I am" ("Cogito, ergo sum" in Latin) is a famous philosophical proposition formulated by René Descartes, a French philosopher and mathematician. This statement is the foundational basis for his philosophy and is often considered the beginning of modern Western philosophy.
Descartes' argument goes as follows:
- If I doubt my own existence, I must exist in order to doubt.
- If I am deceived about my existence, I must exist in order to be deceived.
- If I think, then I must exist, because thinking requires an entity to perform the act of thinking.
Therefore, the mere fact that I am thinking proves that I exist. This is a form of rationalism, which holds that knowledge is derived from reason rather than experience. Descartes' "Cogito" is a fundamental principle from which he builds his entire philosophical system.
