Guard band意思

"Guard band" is a term used in various contexts, but it is most commonly associated with telecommunications and electronics. In these fields, a guard band refers to a range of frequencies or wavelengths that are set aside between two channels or bands of communication to prevent interference between them.

For example, in radio frequency (RF) communications, different stations or services use specific frequency bands to avoid interference. However, if two adjacent bands are used without any buffer, there is a risk of signals from one band leaking into the other, causing disruptions. To prevent this, a guard band is introduced, which is a small range of frequencies that separate the bands and act as a safety margin. This ensures that even if there is some signal leakage, it will not interfere with the operation of the other band.

Guard bands are also used in other contexts, such as in the allocation of television channels, where they can help to prevent interference between analog and digital broadcasts, or between different countries' broadcast standards. In these cases, the guard band may be a physical space between transmitters or a time slot in the broadcast schedule.
