Present continuous的意思
"Present continuous" is a grammatical term used to describe the verb form that indicates an ongoing action or state that is happening at the time of speaking or in the immediate future. In English, the present continuous tense is formed by using the present tense of the verb "to be" (am, is, are) plus the present participle of the main verb (which typically ends in -ing).
For example:
- I am reading a book.
- She is studying for her exam.
- They are playing football.
The present continuous can also be used to describe future arrangements or plans, especially when they are scheduled or already arranged.
For example:
- I am meeting my friends for dinner tonight.
- She is flying to Paris tomorrow.
In contrast, the simple present tense is used to describe actions or states that are general, habitual, or unchanging.
For example:
- I read books every night.
- She studies at the university.
- They play football on Saturdays.
The present continuous is not used for actions that are completed or habitual; instead, the simple present tense is used in those cases.
