Ilha formosa的意思

"Ilha Formosa" is Portuguese for "Beautiful Island". This name was given to Taiwan by the Portuguese when they passed by the island in the 16th century. The name stuck and is still used colloquially to refer to Taiwan, although its official name is the Republic of China (ROC).
