Freight collect的意思
"Freight collect" is a term used in the context of shipping and logistics. It refers to a method of payment for goods being transported where the consignee (the recipient of the goods) is responsible for paying the freight charges at the time of delivery. In other words, the party who is receiving the goods is billed for the shipping costs separately from the cost of the goods themselves.
When freight is collect, the shipping company or carrier does not require advance payment from the shipper. Instead, the carrier collects the freight charges directly from the consignee when the goods are delivered. This method is often used when the shipper and consignee have a business relationship where such terms are agreed upon, or when the consignee agrees to pay for the freight charges upon receipt of the goods.
It's important to note that freight collect terms can sometimes result in additional fees if the consignee refuses to pay the freight charges or if there are any disputes about the amount owed. In such cases, the shipping company may return the goods to the shipper, and the shipper would then be responsible for the return freight charges as well as any additional fees.
In contrast, other payment terms include:
- Freight Prepaid: The shipper pays the freight charges in advance.
- Freight Prepaid and Addressed: The shipper pays the freight charges in advance, and the consignee is informed that the charges are included in the price of the goods.
- Freight All Kinds (FAK): The shipper pays a flat rate for the freight, regardless of the type of goods being shipped.
The terms of payment for freight can vary depending on the agreement between the shipper, consignee, and the shipping company. It's always a good idea to clearly understand and agree upon the terms of payment before shipping goods to avoid any unexpected charges or disputes.
